Agent delegation in chat
UserThe chat assistant can hand a task to a special-purpose agent in the background — for example a research task — and weave that agent’s result into its answer. You don’t have to do anything differently: you ask your question as usual, and the assistant decides on its own whether to bring an agent in.
What you notice
Section titled “What you notice”- Research & reading: The assistant pulls in a suitable agent in the background and blends its result into the answer. For pure read tasks this happens without any prompt.
- Long runs: If an agent takes a while, the chat doesn’t block. The assistant delivers the result once it’s ready — for very long runs you may need to briefly ask (“Is the research done yet?”).
Write actions are confirmed
Section titled “Write actions are confirmed”If an agent wants to write something — send an email, create a document or a note — it does not do so immediately. Instead:
- The assistant shows you a list of the planned write actions.
- It asks for your approval.
- Only after your “yes” are the actions carried out.
This keeps you in control: nothing is written or sent without being asked. The same prompt appears when the agent wants to process many files or mails one by one: that only reads, but it triggers paid model calls. → Tools: Process many files or mails one by one Other pure read tasks (looking something up, researching, summarizing) run without this prompt.
Don’t confuse it with “Agents in Chat”
Section titled “Don’t confuse it with “Agents in Chat””Separately, there is Agents in Chat — there an agent gets its own contact in messaging and is addressed like a colleague via direct message. That’s a different feature. The delegation described here happens invisibly inside the normal chat assistant. → Messaging
